DTI to Set Philippine Quality Award Learning Sessions in Zambales

Subic Bay, Zambales - the Department of Trade and Industry – Competitiveness Bureau (DTI-CB) is set to conduct the 2nd leg of the series of learning sessions on the Philippine Quality Award (PQA) on Wednesday, 22 March 2017 at Subic Bay Venezia Hotel, Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Zambales in a bid to promote the performance excellence framework and the national recognition for exemplary organizations in Central Luzon.

PQA is an integrated approach for performance management that sets the standard of excellence to help Philippine organizations achieve world-class performance. It is deemed as the highest level of recognition for quality given to organizations, based on a global standard to assist local organization attain world-class performance excellence. It is the Philippine version of the US Baldrige Performance Excellence Program (BPEP) and other national quality awards abroad.

A similar program, the Philippine Quality Challenge (PQC), is the simplified version of the PQA criteria that focuses on companies interested to start their quality initiatives towards organizational excellence. Both the PQA and PQC serves as framework for competitiveness based on the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM).

‘We encourage businesses to take part in the learning session, being an excellent opportunity to know more about the PQA. We are hoping that an organization from the Central Luzon region will join the roster of globally-competitive firms recognized by the PQA.” DTI-CB Executive Director Virgilio P. Fulgencio said. The DTI-Competitiveness Bureau is the implementing agency of the PQA and PQC Programs.

The learning session will feature STMicroelectronics Inc. (STMI), 2014 PQA Recognition for Proficiency in Quality Management.  During the event, STMI’s Senior Manager for Quality and Reliability Engineering, Dr. Bernardo M. Redoña will talk about the importance of improving operational capabilities of organizations focusing on innovation, learning and agility and delivering value and results to achieve organizational excellence. He will also share their experiences on the adoption of the PQA framework for their journey to performance excellence.
